Manchester united have agreed an initial fee of €15million (£13.6m) with Porto for the left-back Alex Telles.
United have signed Telles on a four-year contract with the option of an additional year and are expected to announce the deal on deadline day. The deal could rise to €17m.
The departure of Diogo Dalot on a season-long loan move to AC Milan gave United leverage to press ahead with a move for Brazil international Telles.
United were on the lookout for a left-back last year but cooled their interest after the emergence of Brandon Williams. An injury to Luke Shaw at the end of last season and Williams’ struggles persuaded United to move for a specialist left-back in the left-footed Telles.
United moved for Telles after Sergio Reguilon joined Sevilla and Ajax rebuffed a tentative loan enquiry for Nicolas Tagliafico. United also considered Vitaliy Mykoloenko of Dynamo Kiev but have opted for a more experienced choice.
Cavani flew into Manchester on Sunday and underwent a medical at Carrington. The 33-year-old Uruguayan is expected to sign on a one-year deal with the option of an additional year.
